Hessen gartenschau

What better way to celebrate the arrival of spring by attending the annual Hessen garden show, which is co-incidentally in Giessen this year!

My eyes were assaulted by a riot of colourful flowers, with smaller designed gardens fitting to themes of “spring scents and magic forms” and  “milestones of knowledge”. Some were very clear into which category they fitted (the yellow fluffballs below) while others were less obvious.

As for the actual gardens themselves, there was something which reminded me of a Mediterranean climates, a giant wickerman style puppet game,  Japanese themed, and something which looked like a game out of Takeshis Castle. . .

A lovely afternoon which could only have been made better by one thing. Yup, you’ve probably guessed it, cake! In the form of a typical “blechkuchen”, which basically translates to sheet-cake, vanilla cream sandwiched between soft sponge and buttery crumbs. Nom. Everything was absolutely beautiful, and as a student I get free entry, so as the themes change I’ll be dropping by again, particularly to the “exotics from the tropics” and “myths from the garden world”!
