autumn in Kassel

With the temperature in Giessen suddenly dropping last week, it felt like autumn had finally arrived. This weekend epitomized everything I love about autumn. It all started off with a chat with my new flatmate, who it turns out was walking a part of the Camino at the exact same time I was last year. She arrived in Pamplona a day before me, somewhere along the way I overtook her and a week later she ended her journey in Burgos, the city I had just left. What a small world! Thinking back to my time on the Camino made me desperate to go out for a few hours and walk in forests so I headed back to Kassel and wandered around the forested park at Wilhelmshohe for a few hours. It wasn’t exactly empty as crowds had flocked to watch the water show, but the weather couldn’t have been better. Wrapped up snugly in cozy clothes (best thing about autumn #1 – although it warmed up thanks to the lovely sun shining) I criss-crossed walking trails and paths under dappled sunshine drifting down between trees crowned in gold and burnt red (best thing about autumn #2 – particularly the red ones trailing across the castle), sat with some tea on the perfect hidden bench with a stream flowing by at my feet (best thing about autumn #3 – I also can’t wait until Gluhwein season starts in Winter) and thought about how quickly time flies by.
